A word search is made by placing a set of hidden words into a letter grid, then filling every unused square with extra letters. Players use the supplied word list to find and mark each answer in the grid.
How to generate a good word search
Choose words that belong together and suit the players' reading level. Remove spaces and punctuation consistently, then pick a grid large enough to hold the longest entries without making the remaining words too sparse.
Place the longest words first, crossing them where useful, and decide whether backwards and diagonal words are appropriate for the difficulty. Fill unused squares with varied letters, then verify every intended answer and check that no inappropriate accidental words appear. Always keep an answer key before sharing or printing the puzzle.
