Conundrum Rush is live

I have added a new Conundrum Rush game to the site.

It is a quick speed round: the Countdown clock starts, a nine-letter conundrum appears, and you try to solve as many as you can in 30 seconds.

How it works

Press Start and the first rack appears as the clock begins. Type an answer and press Submit, or use Skip if you want to move straight on.

Every submission advances to a new conundrum:

• correct answers add one to your score
• incorrect answers do not score
• skips are tracked separately
• a correct answer triggers the confetti animation

The main score is simply how many conundrums you solved before time ran out. The skipped count is shown too, but only as supporting detail.

Sound and timing

The game uses the 30-second Countdown clock music by default. You can turn sound off with the Sound checkbox, and that preference is saved in your browser for next time.

Unlike the normal practice clock, Conundrum Rush does not flash the page when time is up. This game is meant to be played directly on screen, so the final score and answer history are shown there instead.

After the round

When time is up, the game shows the answer to the final conundrum and a table of the round:

• when each rack was shown
• the letters you saw
• how long you took to submit or skip
• what you submitted
• whether it was correct, incorrect, skipped, or still active when time expired

This makes it easier to review where the time went, especially if you were rushing and typed something close but wrong.

Multiple valid answers

Some conundrum letter sets have more than one valid nine-letter solution. Conundrum Rush accepts any valid nine-letter dictionary word that can be made from the rack, even if it was not the generator's first answer.

For example, the same letters can produce both SEPULCHER and SEPULCHRE, so either spelling is accepted.
