Anagram Rush is live
Wed 2 Sep 2026
I have added a new Anagram Rush game to the site.
It is a fast anagram sprint built from the same idea as Conundrum Rush, but with simpler puzzles and more control over the difficulty.
Instead of building a Countdown-style conundrum from two shorter words, Anagram Rush picks one dictionary word, shuffles its letters, and asks you to solve it. You get 30 seconds to solve as many as you can.
How it works
Choose a word length, press Start, and the first shuffled word appears as the Countdown clock begins.
Type an answer and press Submit, or use Skip to move on. Each submission advances straight to the next anagram:
- correct answers add one to your score
- incorrect answers do not score
- skips are tracked separately
- a correct answer triggers the confetti animation
The game accepts any dictionary word that uses exactly the same letters. If the shuffled letters have more than one valid answer, any of them will count.
Common words only
Anagram Rush starts with Common words only switched on. That means each puzzle is generated from a word in the site's common-word list, which keeps the 30-second sprint feeling fairer.
Even with that box ticked, valid answers from the full dictionary are still accepted. The setting controls how the puzzle is chosen, not whether a valid exact anagram is allowed.
You can untick the box if you want the game to choose source words from the full dictionary. In that mode, the game can start from more obscure words, so it becomes much harder.
The common-word setting is saved in your browser, as is the sound setting.
How it differs from Conundrum Rush
Conundrum Rush stays close to the Countdown conundrum format: nine letters, generated from two shorter words, with checks to avoid weak or misleading scrambles.
Anagram Rush is more direct:
- you choose the word length
- the game picks a single dictionary word
- the letters are shuffled
- any exact anagram in the selected dictionary set is accepted
That makes it better for quick vocabulary practice, especially if nine-letter conundrums are too narrow or too difficult for the moment.
