< 2026-10-08Brake caliper brackets are welded on:
They're welded all around the perimeter, plus a big plug weld.
Tapering the perimeter all the way to 0 thickness was an error as that bit just burns away instantly when welding.
Next on this is to polish the spindles down a bit more so they are a nice sliding fit in the wheels, currently still too tight. Then make the spacer that goes on the inside, then cut the spindles to length and weld them on.
The other day I noticed that the water collection tray was full.
The drain hose was still installed so I couldn't really see why water was collecting in the tray. I observed it for a few minutes and noticed that water was collecting at the top of the hose, and building up due to surface tension, and then instead of breaking the surface tension and tumbling down the hose it would spring a tiny leak at the top of the hose and drip into the tray! Unbelievable. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it.
The Meaco advice is apparently to drill a hole in your hose to allow air to get in, which I did and thought it had fixed it, but today again I noticed that the water collection tray was full.
This time I sprayed some WD40 on the inside of the hose and now the water slips down it nicely without surface tension holding a big globule of water in place. Hopefully that's the end of the problem.
