Hello, my name is James Stanley and I enjoy playing with software, electronics, 3d printing, puzzles, CAD, CNC, chess, clocks, metalworking, cryptography, science, engineering, steganography.

Currently I am building a cyclecar using a 190cc pit bike engine, intended to be UK road legal.

My magnum opus (so far!) is SCAMP, this is a homemade 16-bit CPU made with 74xx series logic chips, with its own simple programming language and a vaguely CP/M-like operating system, made during 2021. I used the computer to complete most of Advent of Code in 2021, developing my solutions directly on SCAMP, many of my attempts are on YouTube.

I've been a professional software developer since 2011, self-employed since 2016. I operate the world's most popular Countdown website, also Protohackers which is a server software programming challenge (you can still play it, but it is from a time before LLMs were writing all our code). I also have a long tail of other projects.
